Why Test for Radon?
Thursday, July 24, 2014
Radon is a gas that seeps into homes from Uranium decaying in the underlying soil. The gas can be dangerous if it reaches certain concentration levels. It is estimated that 1 out of every 14 homes in the United States has Radon levels that are higher than what the government would consider safe. Further, Radon is considered the second leading cause of lung cancer in the United States, claiming upwards of 20,000 victims per year.
Basic testing for Radon can be easy and inexpensive, and should you have a Radon problem, mitigating it can cost between $500 and $1,000. Many home improvement stores sell Radon test kits for between $12-20.00.
